FAQ
The questions our guests ask most
These are the questions our Gulf guests ask us every day. If you cannot find your answer here, message us on WhatsApp and we will reply within minutes.
Visas & travel
Do I need a visa to enter Norway?
Norway is part of the Schengen area. UAE citizens are exempt from a visa for short visits, while citizens of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman require a short-stay Schengen visa. We recommend applying six to eight weeks before travel, particularly in the summer season.
Please note: visa rules change, so always confirm with the embassy or accredited visa centre in your country before booking.
Do you help with the visa application?
Yes. We provide the booking confirmation letter, a detailed itinerary, hotel confirmations and domestic flight reservations — the documents a Schengen file normally requires. We also point you to the accredited application centre in your country and explain the steps. We do not submit on your behalf, and the final decision rests with the embassy.
How long is the flight from the Gulf to Norway?
Direct flights to Oslo take around seven hours from Dubai or Doha. From Riyadh, Kuwait, Manama and Muscat there is usually one connection via Dubai, Doha or Istanbul, for a total of nine to twelve hours depending on the layover.
Halal food & prayer
Is halal food genuinely available in Norway?
In the larger cities — Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger and Tromsø — yes, and in good variety: Arab, Turkish, Pakistani and Middle Eastern halal restaurants. In the small fjord villages the options are very limited, which is exactly why we handle it: we contract certified halal kitchens in advance, carry prepared meals on long driving days, and arrange fresh seafood and vegetarian options with hotels where needed. The result is that every meal included in our programmes is 100% halal, without exception.
How are prayer times handled in the itinerary?
The daily plan is built around prayer times rather than the other way round. Your guide carries the day’s timetable for the city you are in, indicates the qibla at each location, and clean prayer mats are kept on board. We also try to be near the hotel or a mosque at the main prayer times, and leave room for Friday prayer at the nearest mosque.
How do prayer times work in a country where the sun does not set?
This is an important and frequently asked question. In northern Norway during June and July the sun genuinely does not set, and in the south the night is very short. There are well-known scholarly approaches to this situation, most commonly estimating times according to the nearest moderate-latitude country, or according to Makkah. We do not issue religious rulings — but before you travel we provide a timetable prepared according to the method used by the Islamic Council of Norway, and we encourage you to consult a scholarly authority you trust at home so that you travel with clarity.
Are there mosques in Norway?
Yes. There are mosques in Oslo (more than twenty), Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim, Tromsø and other cities. The small fjord villages have none, so we arrange a suitable place to pray at the hotel or in a private room when needed.
Weather & what to pack
When is the best time to visit Norway?
From mid-June to the end of August. In this window the mountain roads are fully open, the fjord cruises run a full schedule, and the days are very long — with the midnight sun visible in the north until roughly the end of July. July is the warmest and busiest month, while late August offers more quiet and better prices with weather that is still good.
What is the weather like in summer?
Far more pleasant than a Gulf visitor expects: between 15 and 22 degrees by day in July on the west coast, and up to 25 in Oslo on the warmest days. At night it drops to 8–12 degrees, and it is colder in the mountains and on the glaciers. Rain is possible on any day on the west coast — Bergen is one of Europe’s rainiest cities — but it is usually light and intermittent.
What should we pack?
The principle in Norway is layers: a cotton shirt, a fleece or light jacket over it, and a waterproof, windproof jacket over both. Add comfortable waterproof walking shoes, a small umbrella, sunglasses (the summer light is strong), and an eye mask for sleeping — which is not a joke, as the room stays bright all night. Insect repellent is useful inland in July. Heavy winter clothing is not needed.
Booking & prices
What currency is used in Norway?
The Norwegian krone (NOK). Norway is one of the most cashless countries in the world — cards are accepted almost everywhere, including the smallest cafés and the boats. You do not need to carry much cash. Prices on this site are shown in Saudi riyals, UAE dirhams and Kuwaiti dinars for easy comparison; the final invoice is issued in the currency agreed at booking.
Are the prices shown final?
The prices shown are estimates per person sharing a double room, and vary with the season, hotel category and group size. We send a firm final quotation once we know your dates and how many are travelling. All programmes and prices currently shown are illustrative samples.
Can we book as a private, family-only group?
Yes, on every package without exception. A private group means a vehicle for you alone, a dedicated Arabic-speaking guide, and full flexibility over departure times, stops and rest. The difference in price depends on group size, and becomes very reasonable from six people upwards.
How do I book, and is payment taken on the site?
There is no online payment on the site at present. The process starts with an enquiry on WhatsApp or through the contact form; we then send a detailed proposal, and once you are happy with it, an official invoice and bank transfer details. The booking is confirmed with a deposit, and the balance is settled before departure on an agreed date.
Are the tours suitable for elderly guests and small children?
Yes, with the right planning. The Family Fjord Adventure is designed precisely for this, and any other package can be adjusted for guests who find long walks difficult. Tell us the ages of everyone travelling and any health needs when you enquire, and we will suggest the best fit. Peaks & Glaciers is the only programme that requires a good level of fitness.
